Remember scratch art? You know, you get a black sheet of paper and etch a picture on it and a pretty rainbow (or silver) background is behind?
That's what this necklace kinda reminds me of.
I took a plain ole' washer.

And spray painted the whole thing black. Be sure to spray one side at a time, making sure to get the sides of the washer. Let each side fully dry before you flip it or pick it up.

Then I took my X-acto knife (that is chipped at the end- don't ask me how I did that... I have a talent for breaking stuff that is tough to break) and I scratched lines into the surface. Be careful what you use if you use something as a ruler. You don't want it to chip off the paint or have it stick to the paint.

And there you have it! An etched washer necklace. I looped some embroidery thread around it and it's ready to go. Here's a semi-blurry closeup (it's hard to photograph something so close-up... my iPhone doesn't like it):

I'm really happy with how it turned out! It was a nice, quick little project while I've been studying. I have my second test in my LAST SEMESTER of nursing school tomorrow!
Well, I best be getting back to the books. Enjoy your day!
